Daniel David Buchalter has been litigating real property and business disputes in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1978 (over 30 years).
Daniel Buchalter has litigated court cases in San Francisco, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties as well as in Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano counties.
Daniel Buchalter’s experience includes commercial and residential landlord-tenant disputes (including ancillary federal bankruptcy court proceedings), construction and boundary disputes, and proceedings before San Francisco and Oakland Rent Boards and other administrative agencies.
Daniel Buchalter has been an author of published books on landlord-tenant law, and he has lectured to other lawyers and members of the public regarding landlord-tenant law issues.
Daniel Buchalter has tried cases before judges and juries, including a 100% success record as sole counsel before juries in highly contested unlawful detainer proceedings subject to San Francisco’s Rent Ordinance. Daniel Buchalter has successfully settled thousands of similar actions. He has also successfully obtained zoning and similar variances for others and for himself.
Prior to his association with Sheppard, Rosen, Uziel & Sussman, Daniel Buchalter maintained a separate law practice and also at times was associated with other firms in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1975, Daniel Buchalter was a law school mate with senior partner Robert J. Sheppard and at various times in the 1980's and 1990's was opposing counsel in matters involving Robert Sheppard, resulting in the development of mutual professional respect.
Daniel Buchalter was one of the original authors of the first edition of the leading California Continuing Education of the Bar text, California Landlord-Tenant Practice. He has also been featured as a panel speaker for Continuing Education classes produced by the University of California’s Continuing Education of the Bar program, as well as seminars produced by the private Rutter Group lawyer education program.
Daniel Buchalter participated, both by committee membership and individually, in the drafting and revising of California Judicial Council approved forms, such as the Unlawful Detainer Form Interrogatories.
Daniel Buchalter graduated from Hastings College of the Law in 1978, and took and passed the California Bar Exam that same year. Since 1978, he has been admitted to practice before all California courts, and is also admitted to practice before the Northern and Eastern Federal District Courts of California.
Daniel Buchalter is a Cum Laude B.A. graduate of the University of California at Irvine, Class of 1975. While at Irvine, he pursued a variety of courses including those related to pre-law and urban planning, and was a paid intern with the Huntington Beach City Planning Department for a year.
Daniel Buchalter has participated in various bar and civic activities and organizations, such as the Oakland Symphony Chorus, the California Real Property Law Section Landlord-Tenant subcommittee, and the San Leandro and Emeryville Chambers of Commerce. He has resided in San Leandro, California, since 1989, after having lived in San Francisco 1975 to 1989.
